Colin Young - Running/Track
I ran at Duke University for two years and then at North Central College (IL), where
I was a NCAA DIII Track National Champion in the 10,000 meters in 2000 and runner-up
at the NCAA DIII Cross Country Nationals in 1999. I was a six-time All-American
and a member of five National Championship Track and Cross Country teams. After
graduation, I moved to Elizabethtown where I ran road races, was an assistant coach
at Elizabethtown College, and worked at the Inside Track. Then I earned a Master's
Degree in Sport Psychology and a PhD in Education from the University of Tennesse,
where I also served as an assistant track and cross country coach. I continued running
and set PRs in the 5k (14:33) and 10k (30:25). I have run two marathons but without
much success. So in the next few years, I hope to run under 2:30 and possibly under
the Olympic Trials Standard of 2:22. I currently live in Wuhan, China where I teach
Western Culture and Writing at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
While I was in Elizabethtown, Mike helped me a lot to recover from a hamstring injury.
He has a great understanding of physiology and techinique, but more importantly,
he genuinely cares about each athlete as a person. You can rely on Mike to work
on injuries until they are healed and to keep you healthy, as well as providing
much needed moral support.
Colin is currently residing in China. He is resuming runner after a hiatus. The
pictures show Colin in China. He is planning on coming to the States to do a few
marathons during July through September. Colin plans to run the Beijing Marathon
in October.
